March 2021 NAPNAP Orange County Update

Two months of the year have come and gone and we have now been in pandemic mode for over one year.  I hope you and yours are continuing to stay safe and have been able to be vaccinated.  I hear that our county is getting 10,000 vaccines weekly but we need to vaccinate one million individuals.

One benefit of stay at home orders has been the emergence of a variety of virtual learning opportunities.  Today I learned through CHOC Orthopedic Institute the vast improvement in childhood bone cancers and saw how limb salvage can be done, such as removing a knee joint and replacing it with the ankle joint with the foot turned backwards to create a new knee joint that will fit better into a prosthesis. Incredible!

Please allow me to highlight a few March happenings of importance:

1.  NAPNAP National Elections will take place March 1 - 31.  Please watch your emails for the ballot which is being done by YesElections.  There are some fantastic NP leaders to choose from.  Please be sure to cast your ballot.

2.  The National NAPNAP conference will be March 24-27, and it's completely virtual.  Over 80 learning opportunities.  Register by 3/12 for some fun NAPNAP swag.

3.  California Chapters of NAPNAP Virtual Spring Conference will offer 11 hours of continuing education, also virtually.  Event Brite registration will open March 1 and the conference can be viewed from April 1 to June 30 at your own pace.  There will be a happy hour event to network with fellow members during the event and we hope you can join and learn with us.  A portion of each registration will be donated to one of three charitable organizations.

As part of the California Chapters networking, we are planning to offer a panel for NP students to network with seasoned PNPs.  If you have a personal contact for any NP programs, please forward your information to Judi at dougleonard@netzero.net so we may outreach.

4.   Dr. Brigit Carter, Associate Professor and Associate Dean for Diversity and Inclusion, from Duke University School of Nursing will discuss diversity, equity and inclusion advocacy and workforce development on 3/3/21 at 5:00 p.m. PST.. Email healthpolicy@napnap.org for the meeting link.

Please continue to watch your emails from Linda Scott-Katz, and NAPNAP.  I hope you can take advantage of our ability to network with AAP-OC, ACES and other California Chapters to meet your educational needs.
Our Board is here to support you.  Please feel free to reach out if you have any suggestions, comments or ideas for our chapter.

Sincerely,

Judi Leonard
