Chapter Update

We had an enlightening update on Human Trafficking last week with many PNPs and student nurses in attendance.  I was shocked to learn this is a $150 billion business!!!  The victims are generally moved every 1-3 days to prevent them from having any outside contact.  They bring in 10 customers per night, $100 per customer, $1000 per day/night 7 days a week.  It is feared that with the use of social media, many teens may recruit other teens.  We must be vigilant about prevention, building strong families and ensuring parents are monitoring electronic media.

On a happier note, our annual NAPNAP conference in Long Beach March 25-28 is fast approaching.  We are co-hosts along with the LA chapter.  Several fun things to look forward to at conference include the following:

  1. NAPNAP Foundation Silent Auction.  Our chapter has donated a 2 night stay at Capri Laguna.  Ocean view room…how fun is that?!

  1. California Chapters Reception, Thursday March 26, 6:30pm at the Yard House, Long Beach.  There is room for 3 more.  If you are able to attend and you have not yet RSVP'd, please go to https://ocnapnap.enpnetwork.com/ to sign up.  The chapter is hosting. This will be a great opportunity to network with fellow California PNPs and reconnect with friends.

  1. Photo booth: We will have a photo booth near registration with back drops (beach, nautical, Hollywood) and fun signs and props.  Participants can take their own photos and post to conference website and own social media. If you have boas, sunglasses, hats, etc. that you can lend for the conference, please bring them by.  I’ll be at the booth periodically, along with other members, and we are hoping you will stop by as well, answer general questions and take photos for participants. It’s a great way to meet people!

Please mark your calendars for the remaining meetings to be held this fiscal year:

Wednesday May 13, 6:30-8pm at CHOC, brush up on your splinting and orthopedic skills with hands-on splinting workshop with 2 CHOC Orthopedic NPs.  Space is limited to 25 participants.  Watch for sign-ups shortly.

Wednesday, June 10, 6:30pm, location, topic TBA

Our growing chapter is seeking a President-Elect.  Being in a leadership role is rewarding and a great learning experience.  Our leadership team is the best, very supportive and you will definitely enjoy the experience.  Our National office provides much support as well.

I am happy to announce that Melody Mitchel will resume the position of Treasurer at the start of the next fiscal year.

My best wishes that you and yours all stay well during this time of flu and other viral illnesses.
