Spring Update from Judi Leonard
Posted about 6 years ago
The end of our year is fast approaching.
Our end-of-year meeting will be held on June 12th, at CHOC in Orange in the Wade Education Center, Conference Room B. This will provide 2 hours of Continuing Education on the topic of Adverse Childhood Events. Please RSVP through the email you received announcing this event, or directly on our website: https://ocnapnap.enpnetwork.com/
A few other important announcements I would like to share:
- Our Board has some open positions which need to be filled by the end of the month, or as soon as possible. It has been my pleasure to take the lead these past few years. Our President-elect who was slated to take over has to move out of state so we need a new president. Mentoring is available and some other chapters have Co-Presidents so if you or someone you know may be interested in sharing the role, please let me or any other Board member know as soon as possible. This position involves planning meetings, some record keeping and reporting. The opportunities to network with other chapter Presidents and National leaders at conferences are worthwhile and very motivating.
- We also need to fill the role of Continuing Education Chair. This involves keeping records and submitting a report every 3 years to NAPNAP to renew our provider number. Again, mentoring available. A great way to ease into a leadership role. All you need is a computer, a binder and a tiny chunk of time.
If you are interested in volunteering for one of these roles or have questions, please reach out to Judi at dougleonard@netzero.net or by phone at 714-609-2176. Thank you for giving back.
- Interested in speaking at National Conference next March in Long Beach? Abstracts are being sought and can be submitted until June 4. Please see the following link: https://www.napnap.org/call-abstracts Would love to see some of our local rock star PNPs presenting!
- Melanie Balestra represents our chapter in a group that monitors California legislative issues which have a potential to affect pediatric healthcare. The attachment has the bills which are being watched and the Orange County sponsored legislation is noted by a green color code. The date this was sent was in February and the legislative year is going to wind down soon but it may be of interest. I do not know the current status of the bills at this time.
- Another bill that is being debated is SB 276 which would provide for oversight on vaccine exemptions. To learn more about this and see the status, please use this link: http://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/billNavClient.xhtml?bill_id=201920200SB276
In view of the threat of measles and other communicable diseases it will be interesting to see how this plays out.
- Thank you to Cathy Smith and Vivian Derr who represented OC-NAPNAP at a recent event at CHOC to promote PNPs and NAPNAP. Great job ladies!
Hoping you and your workplaces stay measles free over the coming weeks. Stay healthy!
Judi Leonard,
OC-NAPNAP Chapter President
