Happy Fall to one and all!

With great pleasure, I am honored to work with a talented, committed Board of PNP leaders who are here to support PNPs and advocate for child health.  Your 2017-2018 Board consists of the following dedicated volunteers:

President: Judi Leonard

Past President:  Rebecca Kilpatrick

President-Elect:  Deidre Wilson

Treasurer:  Margaret Brady

Secretary:  Patricia DuPont-Tyler

Communications and Membership:  Linda Scott-Katz

Continuing Education Chair:  Cheryl Deters

Legislative Representative:  Melanie Balestra

OC-NAPNAP 2017 Southwest Conference:  Vivian Derr and Melody Mitchel

Thank you to our outstanding Board!

We are looking forward to another year of learning, networking and creating a supportive environment for our PNP colleagues.  We hope you will be part of it.

Please watch for updates and plan to attend (hopefully with a new nonmember who will become a member) our OC-NAPNAP 2018 Southwest Conference, at the Harold Wade Educational Center at CHOC in Orange.  The conference is set for Saturday, November 10, 2018, so put it on your calendar!  Six hours of continuing education will be awarded. We are in the planning stages and topics will likely include current mental health issues, nutrition and obesity, EKG interpretation, legal and/or professional issues.  If you have a desire to share your expertise or have a suggestion for an outstanding speaker, please 'Contact Us'!

As a result of last year's conference and in the spirit of community giving, the Board will be donating the honorarium budgeted for the Public Health Nurses' program, (they could not accept an honorarium) to be given to Mercy House, a program with a mission to end homelessness.  If you would like to learn more, donate or provide service to this worthwhile organization, here is the link to their website: http://mercyhouse.net

Our chapter meetings are in the planning stages.

On Wednesday January 24, at 6:30pm we will meet at the Water Grill in Costa Mesa (across from South Coast Plaza) to learn more about precocious puberty.  Watch your emails for the registration notice.  It will be posted soon.

Please stay tuned for an update on allergies and treatment in April.

The National NAPNAP conference will be held March 19-22, 2018 in vibrant, windy Chicago.  I hope to see some of the OC there.  I am excited to go there early and see the green river and a St. Patrick's day parade like no other.  Come and learn and join the fun!

The Orange County Chapter is pleased to be part of a new state wide NAPNAP initiative to provide short, affordable online opportunities to enable the PNP to advocate for PNP and child health issues.  We expect this to be up and running in January.  Please make a resolution to be part of this new and exciting program designed for you.

If you are not already receiving legislative alerts, please consider signing up for  the Open Forum email communication from NAPNAP.  You can see what's current here:  http://community.napnap.org/home.

There are also many services, education opportunities, networking opportunities and more at the NAPNAP website.  Check it out and support and be involved in your professional organization.

Wishing you all a blessed, happy and healthy Holiday season.
