Ethics & Jurisprudence

Jurisprudence: covers the differentiation between the roles and functions of the BON and professional organizations, information on the Nurse Practice Act, BNE Rules, BON position statements and guidelines, application of the Standards of Practice and Unprofessional Conduct Rules in determining the RN's duty to the patient, application the delegation criteria and supervision requirements as they pertain to client conditions and various settings. Professional boundaries / over involvement and strategies needed to protect the therapeutic relationship between the RN and the client., interpretation of recent legislative amendments to the NPA, in addition to other legislation that may impact nursing practice.

Ethics: Course covers identification of RN responsibilities related to their licensure, nursing ethics, the nurse's duty , definitions of moral principles and confidentiality principles relevant to the nursing profession, description of the considerations involved in ethical decision-making and considerations related to impaired nursing, identification of reasons for boundaries in relationships and strategies to maintain a therapeutic professional relationship between the RN and the patient, the role of the nurse as an advocate and use of resources in ethical dilemmas.
