On Wednesday, May 11th, Renee McLeod, Dean of Nursing and Health Professions at Brandman University spoke at our OC-NAPNAP chapter meeting about the educational opportunities for Registered Nurses. (Brandman does not have a pre-licensure program.)  They have an RN to BSN program, a Master’s degree in Health Administration, one in Health Risk & Crisis Communication and a DNP. The Doctor of Nursing Practice can either be BSN to DNP or Post-Master’s to DNP.

Within the BS to DNP program, there are many different areas of focus, including Adult Acute Care NP, Family Psychiatry and Mental Health NP, Gerontological NP, Neonatal NP and Pediatric Acute Care NP. At the end of her presentation, even those of us who felt that we had no interest in obtaining a DNP were thinking that they may need to re-think this position due to her dynamic speaking talent and enthusiasm for her field. This is the fourth DNP program she’s been involved in creating, and as such, benefits from what she has learned from the previous three. We’re delighted to have her as a chapter member!

As an added bonus, Renee gave a short presentation on technology and enlightened us on the “free” apps out there that we can use to enhance our practices and help to bring us into the upcoming electronic world. She promised to send me this list of apps which I will post.
